About

Welcome!

I have been writing and teaching writing for most of my adult life. Initially, my writing consisted of opinion pieces and narrative non-fiction, and I have had the privilege of being published in many magazines and newspapers. Over the past few years, however, I have turned to writing books and screenplays.

My latest book is Captain and the Greyhounds, which started as a screenplay that I wrote back in 2016. But now it is officially a children’s chapter book, aimed at kids from 6-11 years old. It is about an adventurous terrier mutt who is busy planning his escape, until the greyhound next door goes missing, and he discovers the importance of family. You can find your copy on Amazon.

In 2022, my first novel, Cassandra’s Daughter, was released on Amazon. It is a multi- generation family saga that explores how secrets can impact children and grandchildren.

My work on the novel was interrupted in March of 2020, thanks to COVID lockdowns. Years ago, my dad mailed me a copy of a diary kept by his aunt Clara during the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1918-1919. Clara not only chronicled her daily life as an 18-year-old in rural South Dakota but also mourned numerous young townspeople who died of influenza.

In June 2021, I published the nonfiction Clara’s Journal: And the Story of Two Pandemics (order here!). Using the diary, I researched the people and places as well as the daily life of the people in rural South Dakota at the time.I still love writing essays and opinion pieces, and you will find those on my blog. And don’t forget to get on my mailing list so that you receive updates on my work. I would love to hear your feedback!

Thanks,

Vickie
